Playback singer Suchitra issued a public apology to her ex-husband and actor-stand-up comedian Karthik Kumar for calling him gay. She shared a video on her YouTube channel, Suchi's Space, stating that she is putting up the video after Chennai Pattinampakkam police's constant calls.
On August 14, Suchitra shared a video and said that she needed to co-operate with the police who wanted to grab over her YouTube channel. "Karthik Kumar filed a complaint at the Pattinampakkam police station stating that I called him gay in interviews.

The singer also claimed that she had been receiving phone calls from the police for a not many weeks now. "Now, it has escalated to threatening. Police officer Vijayalakshmi said that she had been following up regarding the apology and that I should be in prison for not issuing one. I didn't want to ruin her mental peace and hence I'm publishing my public apology," she remarked.

Singaporean comedian Kumar revealed he considered gender reassignment when he was younger in the latest episode of The Daily Ketchup Podcast published yesterday (July 8).
The year-old, who is promoting his upcoming comedy show Kumar Uncut, was asked if he had ever wanted to be a female.
"Yes, when I was very young. But I changed my mind," he admitted candidly.
When asked to elaborate, Kumar shared that if he had gone through the process then, he wouldn't have been who he is now.
"I would've gone to the streets, I would've ended up being a prostitute," he said.
Kumar also shared the challenges he would have faced.
"I wouldn't be able to work. How was I going to put food on the table? That was the issue last time… In those days, nobody would employ me and I would have landed up on the streets," he added.
