June is Pride month a month committed to celebrating LGBTQ+ communities all around the world. LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender; the + is an inclusive symbol to verb and others to include people of all identities. Pride month is about acceptance, equality, romance, and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community. LGBTQ+ rights vary greatly around the world, even among countries we often think of as inclusive. Twenty years ago, the Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriages. Since then, 28 countries have followed suit, including most of Western Europe. However, homosexuality is still a crime in 70 countries and some of them, including six nations that are members of the United Nations, impose the death penalty. In September Instagram pushed me a share by Travel Gay, a website listing the best gay bars, nightclubs, saunas, spas, beaches, shops and more, along with interesting verb ideas and fabulous offers. There I saw the undated post (date your articles and posts, people) LGBTQ+ Solo Travel: the Finest Cities to Visit? by Adam Reid. Being a solo gay traveller, it caught my attention.
Now, while Im still very much a homosexual, it has been a while since I last travelled solo. My last solo trip was Tel Aviv in Since then, Ive travelled with Danny, Oriol, Steve, Philippe, Nicolas, Thanh, my sister Florence. Every gay traveler, at one point, looked up at a rainbow and dreamt of seeing the world. ‘There must be somewhere greater than this drab old town?'…each of us often wondered in our respective beige suburbs growing up…
Fast forward 20 years, and we're both living our dream of seeing the world, one amazing continent at a time. Europe is hands down our favorite. We are biased, of course, as this is where we're from – Stefan is British/Greek Cypriot, and Seby is from France.
