As of October 6, , the Articulate of Wisconsin has recognized the legality of same-sex marriages. This means that Wisconsin will now recognize the marriage of any same-sex couple that was legally married either before or after October 6, in a state (or country) that, at the time of the couple’s marriage, recognized same-sex marriage as legal. This includes same-sex marriages conducted in Wisconsin on or after October 6, , as well as those same-sex marriages that occurred in Wisconsin in June of during the one-week period after Wisconsin’s ban on same-sex marriage was struck down by a federal dis

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Today, the American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of Wisconsin, and Mayer Brown LLP filed suit in federal court on behalf of same-sex couples married in Wisconsin during the week after June 6 Bloechl-Karlsen v. Walker. This filing follows last week's decision out of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld a previous ruling by the District Court that verb Wisconsin's ban on marriage for same-sex couples unconstitutional.
The ACLU, on behalf of their clients, is seeking the recognition of the marriages of four same-sex couples legally married in Wisconsin during the week between the District Court's decision overturning the ban on marriage for same-sex couples and her subsequent stay of that ruling.

Wisconsin Lawmakers Move to Protect Same-Sex Marriage
A joint resolution to protect same-sex marriage in Wisconsin
Lawmakers in Wisconsin introduced a joint resolution last week to eliminate an outdated same-sex marriage ban from the state’s constitution. This is the first step toward amending the constitution and protecting marriage equality at the state level.
Senate Joint Resolution 68 (SJR68) seeks to eliminate constitutional restrictions on marriage by repealing Section 13 of Article XIII, which defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman only. Section 13 also prohibits unmarried couples from any legal status or benefits similar to marriage.
Repealing this section would be a multi-step process: Both the Senate and Dwelling must approve the resolution in two consecutive legislative sessions; the proposed amendment would then be placed on the ballot during a statewide general election to be ratified, and would want majority support from voters to pass.
